The International Monetary Fund (“Fund”) Voluntary Savings Plan (“VSP” or “the Plan”) was established as a meaningful way to help eligible IMF employees save for retirement and prepare for a financially secure future. The Plan serves as the available retirement plan for eligible contractual employees, features the “Enhanced Voluntary Savings component” as an alternative retirement plan option for staff who are eligible but elect not to participate in the Staff Retirement Plan (“SRP”), and allows SRP participants to supplement their retirement savings. The Plan is a type of qualified retirement plan commonly referred to as a defined contribution or 401(k) plan. This means that the value of your account depends on the amount of contributions you choose to make to the Plan as a portion of your salary, plus contributions from the Fund (for eligible participants who satisfy applicable conditions), and gains and losses based on your investment choices.

Voluntary Savings Plan Description (May 2023)
If you are a current or former participant in the Staff Retirement Plan (SRP), and are subject to US taxation, you may be impacted by the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). For retired SRP participants: regulations allow your interest in the SRP to be treated as having a value equal to the amount of the gross distributions received in the most recent taxable year, as reported to you on Form 1099-R. If you did not receive any distributions from the SRP in the prior year, then the value of your interest in the SRP is zero. If you are not required to file (and do not otherwise file) a federal tax return, you are not subject to this reporting requirement. Please refer to instructions for IRS Form 8938 (www.irs.gov) for additional information.
